Bill Brown's Bridges

Writing and publishing the biography of Bill Brown and telling the story of his creation of world-class bridge designs was the culmination of a 20-year design and business collaboration between 301’s MD David Boxall and the pre-eminent engineer.

David Boxall set up the brand communications of Brown Beech and established B2 as a brand name recognised throughout the world of civil engineering and bridge design. He ran the B2 business for 10 years and then set up 301 to further digital design and help other businesses build their brands.

Telling the story

301 Design took on the ambitious book publishing project to celebrate the career of an engineer who created iconic structures that have transformed cities and regions across the world.

Design innovation

The biography was authored, designed, edited and published as a 148-page hardback book entirely by the 301 team.

A limited edition were also published in a handmade presentation box.

A publishing triumph

Launched at the Institution of Civil Engineers headquarters in Westminster, London, Bill Brown’s Bridges has been distributed throughout the world of engineering and design to considerable acclaim.

Johnson & Johnson

Johnson & Johnson is the world's largest healthcare company. 301 have provided design consultancy and publishing to six J&J companies for over 15 years and were awarded the status of ‘preferred worldwide supplier’.

One commission was the creation of a complete library of five multilingual training volumes in five languages, each featuring over 300 illustrations. The 301 Design team co-authored the training material with J&J and delivered a programme that became recognised as the best in the sector.

We have become recognised as experts in medical device publishing and sales training. We have been commissioned by six of the world’s top 15 medical device companies to publish digital technical literature, product brochures, marketing programmes, medical illustration and digital distance learning material.

Noir Basic

Noir Basic, the Paris-based fashion brand approached 301 to devise their digital marketing and website for their launch.

The graphic style we created brought our design team back to our typography roots, appreciating the delicate nature of well-crafted fonts and telling a brand story through combining typographic illustrations from London, with dramatic photography from Paris.

Bosphorus Bridges

More than one million people attended the opening of the Bosphorus Bridge in Istanbul in 1973. The bridge's 40th anniversary and its impact on the growth of Turkey was commemorated by an exhibition created by 301 Design.

The ʻBridging Two Continents’ (İki Kıta Birleşirken) exhibition was shown at the Rahmi M. Koç Museum in Istanbul, initially for one year. Due to its popularity, the exhibition remained open for a further six months.

301 Design created a 200 square-metre exhibition which was displayed in the museum’s impressive 12th-century Byzantine building. It presented a photographic history of the bridge’s design and construction.

An historic venue

It was a highlight for the 301 Design agency in London to work with the curator at the Rahmi M. Koç Museum to research, plan, design and produce a memorable exhibition to celebrate such a significant event in Turkey.

Designing and delivering

301 created a digital archive of over 3,000 original construction photographs and selected high-impact images and film footage to tell the story of bridging the mighty Bosphorus Strait, connecting Europe and Asia.

A powerful impact

Dual-language story-telling, enticing imagery and previously unseen films had a powerful impact on large numbers of visitors throughout the exhibition’s 18-month duration. An update is planned for 2023.

ICE 200

To celebrate the Institution of Civil Engineers' bicentenary in 2018, we created a major exhibition to showcase some of the world's most amazing and inspiring engineering projects.

Divided into three zones; Connected Communities, Environmental Impact and Smart Infrastructure, the exhibition allowed engineers, students of all ages and the general public to explore these key areas of civil engineering, with projects and notable engineering ‘superheroes’ featured throughout.

This was our third and largest exhibition project to be held at the ICE’s headquarters in London and included around 200 graphics, along with videos and interactive screens, plus a media cube with a large screen and seating, presenting further videos.

The exhibition was a huge success and was awarded Visit England’s ‘Best Told Story 2018’.

Telling the story

The 301 team were asked to tell the story of the past, present and future of civil engineering across the world and the engineering superheroes who make these a reality.

Researched and developed

It was a fascinating project for 301 to investigate engineering history, examine the fundamental challenges engineers face, and display enticing stories of the people and projects.

Royal approval

Our creative director, David Boxall, had the honour of discussing the design and production of the exhibition with HRH The Princess Royal when she visited the ICE in September 2018.

Royal Golf La Bagnaia

As Italy prepares to host the Ryder Cup in 2023 the country will be full of excitement for golf once the coronavirus pandemic has hopefully passed.

Royal Golf La Bagnaia is one of the finest golf resorts and spas and a new website provides the ideal promotion to local and international golfers.

The unique attractions of the golf course, the beautiful resort and the historical attractions of Tuscany are brought together in the engaging, easy-to-use website.

The IMG managed club is close to Siena, south of Florence and is an ideal location for golf in authentic surroundings. The website shows off the Robert Trent Jones Jnr design through rolling Tuscan hills.

The site has a user-friendly interface for easy updating by the management team at Royal Golf La Bagnaia and has been developed in Italian and English versions.

Tandridge Golf Club

Tandridge Golf Club is a Harry Colt classic design in a wonderful setting near Oxted in the Surrey Hills. 301 has worked with the club for 10 years to help build the brand, improve their marketing and develop the website.

The team has a powerful combination of corporate branding and marketing experience as well as detailed knowledge of the golf market. A brand guide set new standards, whilst enticing photography and a high performance website encourage visitors. The website promotes the delights of the golf course and its surrounding countryside, the warm welcome of the club and the joy of the famous ‘Tandridge Lunch’. Club officials have been delighted with the response from members and visitors.

301 redesigned the club identity and brand guidelines to ensure the quality, strength and value of the Tandridge brand is presented consistently in all print and digital material.

301’s photographers identified what makes the course special, and produced a photo library to provide a highly-effective invitation to the golf club.
