The golf course was constructed through wooded valleys and parkland around the impressive manor house, in a landscape shaped by Capability Brown.

In the 1950s, it was the UK home of four-time Open Champion, Bobby Locke, who filmed one of the UK’s first golf instruction videos there in 1951. He was renowned for his high-quality putting and coached many of the club members.
